ROLE: Specialist in Loading and Unloading
DEPARTMENT: Production Team
REPORTS TO: Manager of Production
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
We are in search of a well-organized and detail-oriented material handler to become part of our team. The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out the necessary tasks of unloading product deliveries, tidying up the workshop, and moving inventory and other materials to meet production requirements. The optimal candidate for this material handler position is a dedicated worker who has the ability to complete assignments independently or with minimal guidance.
- Transport jobs and parts from station to station. This position involves moving parts from staging, to work centers, to the audit area for inspection, and then to shipping. Each job has different work center stops and it is vital that process labels and routings are accurately identified to ensure jobs go to the appropriate location.
- Provide assistance to production operations by delivering and opening materials and supplies to various work stations
- Prepare materials (boxes and skids) required for packaging jobs
- Ensure that employees involved in direct labor have all the resources they need to fulfill production and efficiency requirements
- Operate forklifts with utmost care and efficiency
- Work together with internal departments to locate parts or address issues
- Arrange products according to customer orders and manage staging racks and areas where jobs are kept after blanks are cut or punched
- Ensure the shop floor is well-maintained and organized by keeping scrap containers and trash bins empty
- Maintain organization in skid yard
- Regularly liaise with operators and production supervisors to ensure production needs are being met
- Adhere to written or oral instructions relating to daily tasks and job responsibilities
- Ensure that operations comply with the company's lean manufacturing initiatives
- Comply with company policies concerning safety/wearing PPE
- Participate in suitable production team meetings
- Ensure that operations comply with the ISO 9001 Quality System
- Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
- Perform other duties as required
- Read, analyze, and process information quickly
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- At least three years of experience in a manufacturing setting
- At least three years of experience operating forklifts
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively
- Experience in 5S principles and lean manufacturing is preferred
- Highly motivated and focused; a self-starter
- Ability to think critically and anticipate production needs
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Possess a continuous improvement mindset and always looking for a more efficient way to complete tasks
- Ability to use reasoning to solve problems as they arise
- Technical competence and adequate computer skills
- Working knowledge of sheet metal types, gauges, sheet sizes, finishes, and basic fabrication operations
