Description

Under immediate supervision, performs difficult clerical and technical work involving the processing and collecting of invoices for various city departments.

Examples of Duties

  • Sets up new customers.
  • Maintains existing customer records.
  • Enters invoices.
  • Posts payments and balances cash drawer; reconciles to accounts receivable system.
  • Posts batches and prepares billing file for external processing.
  • Aids other departments by answering questions and navigates them through the Mitchell Humphries accounts receivable system.
  • Assists with the rollover of excess calls on the customer service phone lines
  • Assists with collections on past due accounts via the North Carolina debt set-off program.
  • Serves as backup to Loan and Assessments positions.

Typical Qualifications

General knowledge of routine accounting principles, terminology, and methods. Attributes include the ability to multi-task; maintain complex financial records and to prepare reports and statements; excellent writing and editing skills; attention to detail and accuracy; excellent critical and logical thinking skills; problem solving skills; excellent customer service skills. Work and Excel skills are essential. General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; knowledge of billing/collection functions and policies.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by college level courses in bookkeeping and accounting and considerable experience reconciling financial accounts.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing and reaching with hands and arms; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
