Summary of Job Duties:
*This position is exposed to laboratory animals*
The Research Assistant (RA) should have a high level of experience in a laboratory and animal research setting. The RA would be in charge of maintaining all mice colonies of which include breeding and genotyping. In addition, he/she would be highly involved in all animal experiments of which include kidney transplants, bone marrow transplants and in vivo tumor growth. These experiments are run by a senior member of the lab and the RA will work with the senior member to breed the animals to gain the required number needed for the experiments as well as monitor the health of animals following surgery. The RA would be required to work independently on research projects therefore, he/she must have experience organizing experiments and interpreting data received from those experiments. The RA must attend weekly lab meetings and be prepared to present updates on assigned research projects. The RA will be responsible for all documentation regarding performed experiments and maintenance of the mice colonies. Aside from the assigned research projects, the RA will be responsible (along with other members of the lab) for maintaining the lab and equipment and keeping it stocked.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological sciences plus three (3) years of research experience required. Degree must have been obtained prior to the application.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must work closely with various laboratory animal specimens.

Must have demonstrated the ability to successfully carry out experiments in a laboratory setting.

Must have knowledge in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cancer Biology.

Tissue culture and microscopy skills are also necessary.

Prior experience with animal research is required.
