Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Sitter, Safety Attendant (PSA) maintains a safe environment and provides continuous observation of patients who are placed primarily under 1:1 or other close monitoring for safety reasons.
The PSA must be able to observe the patient to ensure he/she is safe and report any unsafe conditions and/or behavior to the RN. The PSA reports to the Nursing Supervisor. He/she may handle human blood and other potentially infectious and/or hazardous materials, which may result in a possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or harmful elements.
The position may care for patients in the following age groups: pediatric, adolescent and geriatric.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior patient care experience in acute, psychiatric or long-term care preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Has full command (verbal and written) of the English language. Possesses the physical abilities, including heavy lifting, and perceptive acuity, e.g., visual, hearing, to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions.
