What You Will Do:

The Candidate will be key member of a DoD client’s Data Operations team, providing expertise in data layer operations using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and on-prem solutions. The candidate will provide support in the areas of development, research, documentation, education, and advisory across all workstreams.

The Data Operations team supports a DoD component’s Chief Data & Software Officer to drive objectives that align to the DoD Data Strategy. The DoD needs to ensure business and mission data is timely, discoverable, accessible, sharable, trusted, secured, and available when needed for decision-making and mission success. The Data Operation’s team needs to transition the client to a data-centric enterprise by providing guidance, oversight, pipeline infrastructure, orchestration, and governance for the DoD component’s enterprise data (US-ONLY; cloud and on-prem), supporting Program Management Offices (PMOs), Functionals, and Contracted Support.

The team follows an Agile/Scrum methodology, plans in quarterly Program Increments (PIs) and iterates rapidly in 2-week sprints.

The team is in the early stages of defining data service offering’s for organizational customers, journey mapping customer onboarding, and trialing a data catalog. In the future, data onboarding and data services are streamlined for intake, review, prioritization, development, testing, and deployment with a robust DoD component data catalog.

We seek candidates with extensive knowledge of and hands‐on experience with modern data engineering, database administration, data onboarding, and data cataloging, with proven ability to work independently or with a team in converting client business and functional requirements into deployed cloud or on-prem solutions.

What You Will Need:

• 
  An ACTIVE and CURRENT Secret federal security clearance with the ability to maintain it
• Minimum five (5) years’ of related work experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree
• An AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification or related
• Understanding and experience working with cloud services in AWS
• Understanding and experience operating in Agile/Scrum

What Would Be Nice To Have:

• Master's Degree in a technical or business discipline
• Experience in DoD and commercial data engineering with clear examples of value added to the client
• Experience performing cloud vs. on-prem cost-benefit analysis (CBA) for workload deployments
• Experience with the DoD ADVANA cloud environment
• Experience with metadata management
• Experience with Alation software for data cataloging
• Experience with Terraform software for IaaS deployments
• Understanding and experience using Atlassian Jira and Confluence
• Understanding of data visualization tools (e.g., MS Power BI, Tableau, Qlik etc.). Examples of migration between multiple visualization tools is a plus
• A combination of AWS, Azure, or other industry recognized Data Engineering or Architecture Certification leveraging DAMA or ICCP core knowledge
• Understanding of the DoD Data Strategy and DoD data policies
• Demonstrable experience with data governance, data onboarding, data maturity, data quality, data API integration, data analytics, and big data platforms
• Experience in using both AWS storage and database services (e.g., EBS, EFS, S3, Aurora, RDS)
• Experience in at least one statistical programming language (e.g., C#, Python, R); knowledge and understanding of Python Pandas is a plus
• Experience conducting technical research used in the areas of platform, technology, and data-based strategic planning services, decision support services, education and training development, and organizational performance support
