Mercy Iowa City is actively seeking a Full Time Environmental Services Aide to join our team!

Pay Range: $15.25-$21.07 per hour

Basic Job Function and Responsibilities

Maintain a clean, orderly, and sanitary environment in designated areas of the hospital. Promotes the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.

  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, showers, tubrooms, sitz baths, and the like. Replenishes paper towels, toilet tissue, dispenser/bar soap, and other disposable supplies. Sanitizes patient room furniture and fixtures.
  • Cleans and re-makes beds after patient is discharged. May strip and collect soiled linens from patient room.
  • Cleans and restocks Environmental Services cart/equipment with chemicals correctly mixed. Maintains clean and orderly appearance of utility rooms/janitor closet.
  • Cleans nursing unit refrigerators as needed.
  • Dries and damp/wet mop hard surface floors in patient areas, offices, classrooms, and/or other designated areas of the hospital.
  • Empties trash and sanitizes wastebaskets with sanimaster III RTU, removes regular trash from holding areas and transports by carts to dumpster; removes biohazard/isolation trash from holding areas and transports to the incinerator room.
  • Performs other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by Supervisor such as setups, etc.
  • Polishes stainless steel fixtures and drinking fountains.
  • Removes drapes and cubicle curtains for laundering and re-hang when laundered; launders mops, rags, etc. in Environmental Services department washer/dryer.
  • Removes instruments/patient utensils from patient room to proper area, disinfects, and leaves for Central Sterilizing pickup.
  • Reports equipment failures and furniture repairs as needed.
  • Vacuums carpeted floors and upholstered furniture in patient rooms, offices, conference rooms, nurses stations, lounges, cafeteria, gift shop, hallways, and other designed areas; spot cleans carpet and/or upholstered furniture polish stainless steel.
  • Washes walls and ceilings in corridors, patient rooms, offices, classrooms, conference rooms, and any other designated area of the hospital including surgery.
  • Assists in the delivery of linen to all nursing units and ancillary departments throughout the hospital, Cancer Care, and Mercy Medical Plaza.
  • Assists with loading and unloading laundry truck.
  • Checks surgery towels for stain, lint and holes.
  • Inventories par levels, prepares and delivers linens to all nursing units and ancillary departments throughout the hospital, Cancer Care, and Mercy Medical Plaza.
  • Logs and posts all issues from and returns to Linen inventory location.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Participates in receiving, sorting, and folding and storing of linens.
  • Performs specialized duties such as repairing linens and altering items as requested as well as making supplies.
  • Assists with Patient Escort duties (excluding Valet), as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Experience

  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions - Required
  • Previous use of rotos and vacuums - Preferred
