Job Description

The Media & Communications Coordinator (MCC) increases the public’s awareness of YSS’s mission and highlights the work of the agency’s programs and services. The position oversees YSS’s online presence, including maintaining the organization’s website and creating content for its social media sites, and coordinates communications such as press releases with external parties. The MCC also assists the Director of Development and Public Relations with projects such as the annual report, annual appeals, and more.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Director of Development and Public Relations to develop and implement an annual marketing plan for the agency.
  • Executes day-to-day social media responsibilities, including monitoring and responding to comments, and implements social media campaigns.
  • Analyzes interactions and other data to craft stronger posts, increase followers and drive more traffic to the site, and develop strategies for engagement.
  • Designs effective benchmarks for measuring impact of social media programs and monitors YSS’s social media profiles to recommend strategic changes.
  • Remains current on social media trends and uses best practices and new features.
  • Serves as the internal manager of YSS’s website and meets regularly with TSG to ensure that the site is running smoothly.
  • Collects and distributes stories from across the agency to support communication efforts and convey the impact of YSS’s work.
  • Handles media requests and coordinates press conferences and other public appearances for agency staff.
  • Drafts press releases, letters to the editor, and other public statements from YSS.
  • Builds relationships with other agencies, stakeholders, media personnel, and local public officials.
  • Maintains a monthly newsletter for staff.
  • Assists programs with designing flyers, brochures, and other marketing materials needed for client recruitment, community outreach, and more.
  • Works with the HR Recruiter to create and develop recruiting materials, including regular social media posts advertising open positions.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Development and Public Relations on the production of the annual report and other fundraising literature or appeals and designs the layout of these documents.
  • Proofreads all communications published by the agency.
  • Assists with photography and videography at YSS events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Public Relations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate either straightforward or complex topics to diverse audiences on a variety of platforms in clear and compelling language.
  • Strong working knowledge of and experience with social media platforms.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrable graphic design and editing skills.
  • Proven marketing skills and the ability to craft a good “sell”.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Excellent time management/organization skills.
  • Innate curiosity and the ability to research and learn new topics quickly.
  • Proactive collaborating and networking skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and meet deadlines.
  • Basic photography and videography skills.
  • Strong technological/computer skills. Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to be a team player and work with diverse populations.

Education and Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or other related field required.

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in the communications field, preferably with experience in social media management, content creation, and graphic design.

Pay: $39,520.00 - $48,000.00 per year
