Causal Variant Discovery Lead (Precision Genomics - Plant Biotechnology)


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The primary responsibilities of this role, Causal Variant Discovery Lead (Precision Genomics – Plant Biotechnology), are to:

  • Motivates and manages team of research scientists and specialists responsible for designing experiments and conducting genetic analyses towards the deployment of trait-linked genetic markers for large-scale use in the high-throughput genotyping labs;
  • Sets team vision and strategy for scaled identification of very tightly linked or causative variants to enable breeding and gene/genome editing pipelines, partnering with quantitative genetics teams across R&D;
  • Participates as a member of the Precision Genomics extended leadership team and molecular breeding/genome design community;
  • Prioritizes and manages projects in alignment with business needs and partner priorities;
  • Ensures objectives & deliverables are achieved in a timely manner;
  • Supports academic partnerships and 3rd party collaborations within scope of Causal Variant Discovery;
  • Provides monthly written and oral presentations results, conclusions, decisions, and recommendations to peer and management groups as well as partner organizations.

Required Qualifications:


  • PhD OR Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree;
  • Strong familiarity with genetics concepts, quantitative genetics, genomics data analytics, and experimental design;
  • Demonstrated history of establishing and maintaining effective relationships;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex concepts to key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to travel independently both domestically and internationally up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Five or more years of relevant experience in genetics, genomics, breeding programs, or related field (including post undergraduate academic or industrial experience);
  • Three or more years of experience leading direct reports or projects teams;
  • Experience with design, execution, and analysis of genetic and genomic data for causal locus and variant discovery (including QTL mapping, fine-mapping, recombinant analyses, and lab testing data) to identify high performing genetic assays for crops.

Domestic relocation may be available for this role.
